Spain Digital Nomad Visa Family Income 2026: SMI Formula and Examples
Exact 2026 income thresholds for Spain Digital Nomad Visa families: €2,849 main applicant, +€1,069 first dependent, +€357 each additional dependent.
Short answer: the 2026 family formula
For Spain's Digital Nomad residence permit, UGE uses an SMI-based formula for the main applicant and family members. In 2026, the SMI is €1,221/month in 14 payments under Real Decreto 126/2026. For practical application files, we prepare the annual SMI reference as a 12-month equivalent: €17,094 / 12 = €1,424.50.
- Main applicant: 200% SMI = €2,849/month
- First family member: +75% SMI = +€1,069/month
- Each additional family member: +25% SMI = +€357/month
Examples for common family sizes
Use the numbers below as a conservative preparation target, especially if your income is paid in USD, GBP, RUB, CNY, or another non-euro currency.
- Applicant only: €2,849/month
- Applicant + spouse or one child: €3,918/month
- Applicant + spouse + one child: €4,275/month
- Applicant + spouse + two children: €4,632/month
- Applicant + spouse + three children: €4,988/month
Leave a 10-20% exchange-rate buffer when possible. A file that is exactly on the minimum can become weak if the bank statement date or employer letter uses a different conversion rate.
What evidence should prove the income?
In real UGE files, the strongest evidence usually combines contract income and actual bank movements. Depending on the applicant profile, prepare:
- employment or service contract, signed more than 3 months before filing;
- company letter confirming remote work from Spain and compensation;
- last 3 payslips or invoices;
- bank statement showing the last 3 income movements;
- company registration certificate for the foreign company;
- family relationship documents for spouse, children, or dependent parents.
Savings can support the case, but they should not make the file incoherent: UGE can review whether resources are lawful, available, and aligned with the declared work relationship.
Official source and practice note
The legal source for the 2026 SMI is BOE Real Decreto 126/2026. UGE's public teleworker guidance explains the family formula: 200% SMI for the titular, 75% SMI for the first family member, and 25% SMI for each additional member. Our practice notes on Digital Nomad Residence in Spain 2026 use the same preparation logic and add document-specific filing details.
